Khoi Duong

Senior associate, Port Arthur office

Harbor, dock and cruise injuries, and claims for fishing crews, from the Port Arthur office.

Khoi Duong handles harbor and dock injuries, cruise passenger claims, and claims for shrimpers and fishing crews from the Port Arthur office. He speaks English and Vietnamese.

Much of his work is sorting out which rules apply. A dock worker, a shipyard welder and a deckhand are covered by different laws, and he works that out first.

He keeps a running sheet of every bill and lien, so clients know what is owed to whom.

Method

How Khoi sorts out the rules

He starts by asking what the work was, not what happened. The answer decides whether a claim runs through a federal compensation system, a maritime claim, or both.

Then he builds one sheet: every provider, every bill, every lien and what is owed to whom. That sheet is what he negotiates from.

He can talk through a claim in English or Vietnamese.

Sample matters

Sample harbor and cruise matters

  • $128,000

    Harbor worker, back injury

Nine providers and three liens. One running sheet showed what was owed to whom, and the liens were reduced before payment.

Sample matter. Before fees and costs.

  • $95,000

    Deckhand, shrimp boat

A hand injury while hauling the nets. The claim covered the missed season as well as the medical bills.

Sample matter. Before fees and costs.

  • $42,000

Passenger, fall at a cruise terminal

The ticket contract set a short notice window. Written notice went to the cruise line in the first week.

Sample matter. Before fees and costs.

Sample matters are invented illustrations. Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome, and every case turns on its own facts.
